Unani Hakims consider grapes to be of the second class, characterizing them as hot and moist. Raw grapes are viewed as Thanva in the first category and Ruksha in the second category. While they are fatty and can be harmful to the stomach and spleen, causing flatulence, their leaves are particularly useful in treating piles. The juice from grape leaves is believed to relieve headaches, syphilis, piles, and spleen pain. Grapes also have diuretic properties, can suppress vomiting, stop bleeding from the mouth, and provide relief from itching.
Grape wood ash is beneficial for joint pain, and the branches are used to treat bladder and testicle swelling, as well as piles. Grape Sherbet Recipe
Ingredients:
- Fresh ripe grape juice: 1 cup
- Water: 1 cup
- Pure sugar: 2 ser
Instructions:
- Begin by dissolving the sugar in water and bring it to a boil.
- Once the mixture starts boiling, add the fresh grape juice.
- Continue boiling the mixture until it reaches a one-wire or one-and-a-half-wire sugar syrup consistency.
- Once the syrup is ready, remove it from the heat.

Drakshasava Recipe
Ingredients:
- Munakka: 100 pal
- Mishri (rock sugar): 400 pal
- Plum root: 50 pal
- Dhay flowers: 25 pal
- Betel nut: 10 pal
- Clove: 10 pal
- Mace: 10 pal
- Nutmeg: 10 pal
- Cumin, cardamom, bay leaf: 40 pal each
- Dry ginger, chilli, peepal: 30 pal each
- Nagkesar: 10 pal
- Mastagi: 10 pal
- Saffron: 10 pal
- Akarkara: 10 pal
- Koot: 10 pal
Instructions:
- Grind all the ingredients into a fine powder.
- Place the ground ingredients in an earthen vessel, and add water equal to four times the total weight of the mixture.
- Bury the vessel in the ground for 14 days.
- After 14 days, remove the vessel and extract the liquid from the mixture.
- Mix saffron and musk into the extract.
- Store the mixture in bottles.
Usage: Drink this infusion three times a day, taking 1 to 4 minutes per dose, depending on individual strength. Benefits: This preparation is known to increase strength, radiance, sexual power, and gastric fire
It is very beneficial and tonic in case of alcoholic decay (cirrhosis of the liver, alcoholic hepatitis), cough, ulcer, dysentery etc.
Drakshaarishta Recipe
Ingredients:
- Dry Grapes: 50 grams
- Water: Sufficient amount to knead the grapes
- Jaggery: 200 grams
- Spices and Herbs:
- Taj (Cinnamon)
- Bay leaf
- Cardamom
- Snake Kesar (Naga Kesar)
- Priyangu (Callicarpa macrophylla)
- Chilli
- Pepper
- Yvidang (False Black Pepper)
Instructions:
- Knead the 50 grams of dry grapes in water and cook until only a quarter of the water remains.
- Add 200 grams of jaggery and the powdered spices (taj, bay leaf, cardamom, snake kesar, priyangu, chilli, pepper, and yvidang) one by one.
- Stir the mixture frequently while cooking to ensure even mixing and to prevent burning.
- Once the mixture is well-cooked, strain it and pour it into bottles for storage.
Benefits: Drakshaarishta is a potent tonic, especially beneficial in treating alcoholic decay, cough, ulcers, dysentery, and other related conditions.
