Unani Hakims consider grapes to be of the second class, characterizing them as hot and moist. Raw grapes are viewed as Thanva in the first category and Ruksha in the second category. While they are fatty and can be harmful to the stomach and spleen, causing flatulence, their leaves are particularly useful in treating piles. The juice from grape leaves is believed to relieve headaches, syphilis, piles, and spleen pain. Grapes also have diuretic properties, can suppress vomiting, stop bleeding from the mouth, and provide relief from itching.

Grape wood ash is beneficial for joint pain, and the branches are used to treat bladder and testicle swelling, as well as piles. The fruit itself is known to loosen phlegm, regulate menstruation in women, increase blood, and is nutritious. It is beneficial for bronchial inflammation and helps relieve constipation. Grapes are described as sour, sweet, digestive, fire-relieving, and good for the lungs, liver, bladder, and chronic fever diseases. The seeds of grapes are cooling, aphrodisiac, and can cause intestinal contraction. The ash from these seeds is applied to reduce swelling, and grape wood ash is effective in treating gallstones and reducing piles swelling.

The dried form of grapes, known as Munakka, is soothing, laxative, softening, and diaphoretic. Munakka is beneficial for conditions related to body heat, cough, and tuberculosis. The juice from grape branches is an excellent remedy for skin diseases, and in Europe, it is also used to treat eye pain.

According to Colonel Chopra, grapes are soothing, laxative, and fire-enhancing. They help to remove weakness, are beneficial in tuberculosis, and can even be helpful in cases of scorpion stings. Raw grapes contain a substance called lic acid. Known as the “monkey of fruits,” grapes are considered the best and most innocent fruit, playing a more important role in diet than in medicine.

Grapes are an excellent nutritious food for healthy individuals and serve as a highly strengthening diet for patients. In cases of serious and complex diseases where no other food or drink can be administered, grapes can be safely provided as a nourishing option.

This fruit has a long history of use in our country, dating back to ancient times. Renowned texts such as Charak, Sushruta, Vagbhata, Chakra Dutt, and Bhavaprakash have all praised the numerous benefits of grapes
